Cora is at a pretty fun age right now.
- Hi! (particularly when she holds a phone up to her ear, or on top of her head…)
- Ina Mae (clear as a bell)
- No (Anytime we ask her a question. Sometimes when Ina and I are bored we ask her things like, “Cora, do you want ice cream/$100/a pony?” and she says, “No!!!” and we both die laughing.)
- No thank you. Or really no and then two other syllables.
- Thanks - or again, something that sounds like that and is used appropriately.
She has this surprised face she likes to make and will go around the room until all of us are making the same face. Then she has to smile because she accomplished her goal and she can’t make that face anymore. It is just the cutest.
She likes to carry two things around. It typically doesn’t matter what two things they are, but there must be two, one for each hand. If we give her one cracker, that is just not acceptable. She needs two. Examples include:
- a dirty sock and a bar wrapper
- two half eaten apples (she took her sister’s)
- two stuffed animals (her favorite)
- two empty bowls
- two of her sister’s shoes
- two puzzle pieces (much to Ina’s dismay)
We are currently battling a phase where she wants to be held by me if she can see me. No matter how hard I try, I still harbor some guilt about working and leaving her every day, and she knows. She knows all she has to do is cry at my feet and I will pick her up and let her cuddle on my chest while I watch TV. Or cook. Or unload the dishwasher. Or eat. Thankfully, she is pretty light, but on days like Thanksgiving, my back was done by 5. I know this is all my fault and I know that I eventually need to break her of this, but right now I just give in, because even if my back hurts, her cuddling is so cute and sweet.
Speaking of cuddling, when she hugs me, Dan, or Ina, she occasionally will pat us on the back or arm. It is just the cutest.
For comfort, she sucks on her bottom lip or plays with her belly button. Sometimes both at the same time. She gets upset when she wears onesies or zip pjs that hinder belly button access. This of course looks unusual and I kept on talking about how strange it was until one day I remembered my dad telling stories about me doing almost the same thing as a child. Ha! Recently, she has also started sticking her hand down my shirt, only when we are around others, like she is nervous. Hopefully that will stop soon, or I will have to invest in some turtle necks.
She sleeps like a dream. Praise the Lord. It took a lot of work, but I can put her in her crib at 7:30 PM and she will stay there silently until 7:30 AM. She also naps pretty well, but on weekends isn’t too fussy if we are on the go and she only gets a 30 minute nap in the car.
Cora and Ina have started to play together, which is so fun to watch. When she isn’t begging to be held by me, Cora follows her sister around giggling. I am so conscious of how precious this relationship is and I am trying not to put too much pressure on it, but I want them to be best friends forever. <3
I am looking forward to what the next few months bring. <3
