Currently...

Good morning!

Who pressed fast forward on this week? I seriously feel like someone snapped her fingers on Sunday night and all of a sudden it was Wednesday morning.

I think I know who that someone is too.

Not much to report over here. Still pregnant. Still busy at work. Still bending the will that is my daughter. You know, the usual.

To keep things moving around here, I thought I would do a currently update:

Currently eating all the cucumbers. This craving is strong, and I recently made and devoured this Mediterranean quinoa salad - so good.

Currently drinking coffee. For the first time in my life I bought a bag of whole bean coffee (on purpose) and have been grinding the beans in my blender. My blender’s days may be numbered, but my coffee has never tasted so good.

Currently reading the bible. Due to my unplugged weekend, I am a few days behind on my daily readings and working hard to catch up. Also reading The Strong Willed Child when I have some down time.

Currently watching Royals baseball! I thought nothing could get more exciting than the World Series, but this season is proving to be a contender. Also kind of watching PBS kids, which is the newest app on my phone that Ina is loving.

Currently happy that Dan shaved his beard! The side burns are still there, but no more scratchy kisses.

Currentlly thankful to have the windows open, even if it means that I have to burrow under 3 blankets in the morning.

Currently listening to the birds chirp in the morning. LOVE!

Currently planning our furniture shuffle. Dan did a little bit of it on Monday and we are now officially in transition. So, if you come over to our house, you might have to sit on the floor.

Currently researching sticker reward books. Buy one or make my own? Pinterest, here I come.

I hope you have a fantastic day!

Weekly Meal Plan + Unplugged Weekend

Good Monday morning!

I throughly enjoyed a completely unplugged weekend due to a lack of internet. Dan worked all weekend, so Ina and I spent time at my grandparents’ house doing absolutely nothing.

IMG 0795

Except taking pictures to send to Dan.

I feel out of my routine, because I didn’t go grocery shopping over the weekend or do any meal prep or planning. So, today I am playing catch-up. Here is my meal plan:

As far as fitness goes, I think I am done planning any for the rest of the pregnancy. I am going to try to walk when I can, and squeeze on my swim-suit when I can, but play it day by day because I want to use as much of my energy as possible to play with Ina outside.

I hope you have a fantastic week!

Golden Corral

Good Friday morning!

IMG 0767

The blue gummy bears match my eyes!

Yesterday was a fast day. I was in the office before the sun came up and cranked out some work while Dan and Ina had a daughter-daddy day at home. I pulled in the driveway in time to catch them finishing up their “chores."

IMG 0757

Now, Dan is typically a pretty good sport when it comes to eating the meals I choose for our family. He eats what he wants to for breakfast, lunch, before dinner, and after dinner snacks, but eats what I cook/plan for dinner without complaint, as long as it involves some type of meat.

However, if it were up to him, I am sure our meals would be a little less green and have a little more gravy on them. Similar to our home cooked meals, Dan is pretty easy going about the restaurants we frequent, mostly not complaining about my requirement of gluten free options and vegetables as a side.

But, every once in a while, he insists we go somewhere that I am not OK with. HIs most recent request is Golden Corral, where he has been begging me to go for the past month. I don’t know what it is about buffets, but they really gross me out, unless I am on a cruise ship. Ha!

I usually come up with some type of  excuse- we don’t have time or it isn’t in the budget, etc. But yesterday, when we had an evening without any plans ahead of us and an excess in our restaurant fund, I couldn’t say no anymore.

So, at 4:45 PM our family headed into the buffet.

Dan was in gravy heaven.

IMG 0760

Ina was in chocolate fountain heaven.

I tolerated it, but didn’t eat much. I will say that the people working there and the other people in the restaurant were extremely nice and we had an overall enjoyable experience.

Dan said that I failed in my food options and I was no longer invited to go with him and Ina to Golden Corral. Darn. :)

I hope you have a wonderful weekend! <3

Thankful Thursday

Hello!

I am writing bright and early because I have a presentation at 7 am.

So, first of all, I am super thankful that Dan has the day off work, so I don’t have to get both myself and Ina out the door by 6:15. The thought alone makes me want to cry and I am so impressed by the mommas who do this daily.

I am thankful that my glucose tolerance test is over with. I won’t get my results back for a while, but I am on the “don’t worry about it until you have to” train.

IMG 0743

I am also super thankful I got my VBAC consult with the surgeon over with. At first, he didn’t remember me, but then he was like, "Oh, yeah, you are the girl who was getting ready to eat Chipotle when I rushed you off to have surgery."

Guilty.

I want to say I am thankful to have the choice between VBAC and C-section, but currently it is weighing me down. I sort of kind of wish that someone would just tell me what to do. But that likely won’t happen, so I am going to have to buck up and make a decision. Hmph.

I am thankful that Dan offered to go on a walk to pick up Ina from daycare yesterday. This was Ina’s first walk outside of the stroller and she did a great job.

IMG 0744

We spent most of the time teaching Ina to sing, Take Me Out to the Ball Game, and she had fun holding on to "Aumlette’s string."

IMG 0751

I am thankful for Amazon Prime and its 2 day free shipping. I ran out of shampoo yesterday and will have it by tomorrow night. Two (.5ish) days is a perfectly acceptable time to go without washing your hair, right?

Have a great day!

Over-Did It

Hey Hey.

Sigh. I think I overdid it this weekend with all the nesting. Yesterday wasn’t the best day. I had random waves of nausea, muscles in my stomach were sore, and I just felt off.

It is weird how some days I feel completely normal other than my stomach is bigger and other days I feel PREGNANT.

I think my body is just telling me to slow down and I am trying to listen, but there are just so many reasons to not rest. Bless Dan’s heart, he is trying to help, but even when he is up doing the dishes I feel the need to organize Ina’s toys or do a load of laundry. On top of that, yesterday someone came and picked up our piano, so we can finally start the furniture shuffle plan I have in my head. It is so tempting to pick up a chair, or slide a table.

And then there is Ina, who actually doesn’t require all that much physical energy, unless it involves getting her dressed.

IMG 0717 1

Yesterday I considered it a win that I got pants and shoes on under her “fancy gown” that she insisted on wearing all day. She has three princess dress pajamas and I have a feeling they might be a new wardrobe staple.

I can’t forget cooking. Yesterday I made enchilada quinoa casserole, which was super easy because I cooked the quinoa in the rice cooker in the morning and added some leftover rotisserie chicken I had in the freezer. I even made my own enchilada sauce and was done before Ina went through a whole bottle of bubbles - a new record.

I see a lot more casseroles in my future.

Have a wonderful day!

Nesting

Hello!

IMG 0705

[Ina took her shoes off in the car so she could stick her foot out the window and “feel the air.” She is so my daughter.]

I hope you enjoyed your Sunday! Our’s was lovely - we saw a friend get baptized, came home to watch a crazy Royals game and get stuff done around the house, and then finished it up with the amazing fellowship that is our small group.

I think nesting mode has kicked in all the way. My house is still mostly a crazy disaster, but it bothers me more than it used to. I have a very strong NEED to get things done and keep them organized. For example, I used to go to bed all the time with dirty dishes in the sink, knowing I would get to them in the morning. Now I can’t drag my tired body upstairs until I know they are all in the dishwasher and it is running.

Also, in the past two weeks I cleaned out the pantry and my bathroom, cleaned out my closet and Dan’s closet, and yesterday I cleaned out our carpet shampooer! Ha!

The nesting instinct never happened when I was pregnant with Ina, mostly because I thought I would have time to do everything that needed to be done on maternity leave. Now I know there is no possible way I will get anything done on maternity leave, so it must be done now.

One of our biggest accomplishments was getting the nursery room ready to be taken over by nursery stuff and paint. It is now completely empty, with the exception of the pile of every article of clothing that Ina has outgrown in the closet.

IMG 0707

So, I guess I could be a little more organized. I have 3 more months for it to kick in all the way, huh?

Have a good day!

My Food and Fitness Plan [4/19]

On Friday night, we went to our first family Royals game of the season. Ina was so excited and stuck her fists in the air on the drive to the game.

IMG 0671

Once we got to the game, anytime the crowd roared, Ina would reflexively throw her arms up, regardless of what she was holding (a hot dog, a drink, my phone, etc.).

IMG 0687

She jumped and cheered her heart out and helped the Royals win!

IMG 0684

Not so surprisingly, on the walk to the car, her arms went down.

IMG 0698

We had such a successful night at the game (I didn’t forget anything, no potty accidents, no tantrums, etc.) that I now have the courage to do things like that more often as a family. That is, until the baby comes and I have to figure our entire routine out again. Ha!

Saturday was a less successful day with waking up early, a weird nap time, and major regression in potty training. But we did have fun at a friend’s swim birthday party and then had some friends over for Pad Thai.

IMG 0700

It never gets old.

Here is my plan for the week:

Food:

Fitness: I am going to try to walk 3 days and REALLY try to get in the pool at least once.

What are you up to this week? Thanks to Mommy Run Fast! for hosting the link-up!

Always a Problem + A Few Good Reads

Good morning and Happy Friday!

I just successfully completed a (much needed) software upgrade on my Mac because I finally figured out how to clear my start-up disc. Word to Mac users: iPhoto has a SEPARATE trash than your computer. Once I cleared those 3000+ photos, there was surprisingly a lot of space on my computer. I don’t even want to think about how much time I wasted on problems that could have been fixed by that one simple solution.

And, unfortunately, I now have no idea how to use my computer. Ha!

Until I figure out how to use the new photo app, this is the only picture you will see - my bug friend who joined me and Baby Gary for a walk.

I am really enjoying walking and almost don’t miss running. Every once in a while I get to missing that heart beating out of my chest, sweat dripping feeling, but most of the time a nice walk is just what I need.

So I have more time to figure out my new computer problem (caused by fixing the old computer problem), here are some articles I loved from this week:

- Cake: I can so relate to this right now.

-But Why?: Now that we are sofreakingclose to being debt free, Dan and I need to have a serious discuss about this to motivate us.

-How to lose Facebook friends. Sorry, I had to.

-Three truths about C-section mammas. This decision is looming ahead of me...

Have a great weekend! <3

Thankful Thursday (and no more Zyrtec)

Good morning!

This morning I am especial thankful for coffee, because there wasn’t much sleep happening around here last night.

I am thankful for my friend Kim, who cut Ina’s hair while simultaneously babysitting her because Dan and I both had to work. She is superwoman.

IMG 0647

You can’t really tell in this picture because she wouldn’t hold still while I put in her pony, resulting in the cockatoo look, but she cut off around an inch and it looks super cute and more thick and less baby hair-ish. (I know you know what I mean.)

Also, when did she turn 16?

I am thankful that my work meeting went well yesterday.

I am thankful for my mom’s continued help with Ina.

IMG 0651

Seriously, the girl could live off puzzles for days.

I am thankful that we are no longer giving Ina Zyrtec (for her allergies). I know you guys are going to think I am crazy, but last week Ina’s behavior and tantrums were worse with each day. And this was not just-being-a-toddler-worse. This was my-toddler-is-possessed-by-a-demon-worse. I was starting to question my decision to be a mom to two of these creatures. At one point, in a state of exhaustion, I said to Dan, “she is seriously acting like she is on drugs,” and then I thought, well, we did just start her on daily Zyrtec.

After some Googling, I found many moms had a similar experience, and once we stopped the Zyrtec, my mostly angelic daughter with occasional, but controllable, temper tantrums came back to me. Never again.

I am thankful for a weekend full of fun activities and friends ahead.

What are you thankful for?

Tax Day

Hello!

IMG 0630

[Ina picked out her own outfit yesterday. She insisted that different patterns are in style, so I really couldn’t argue.]

Happy Tax Day! This pregnancy has made me much more organized and I finished my taxes in the beginning of February. However, although the state of MO has accepted my return, they have not given me my refund. I am sure they are looking at what I did through a magnifying glass. This is the first time I have done my own taxes since I had a big girl job, so of course I expect the auditors to show up any day now...

Until then I am still free to talk to you fine people.

Yesterday was a great day. I worked from home and Dan and Ina were home in the morning, which presented some challenges, but they left to go on an adventure for the majority of the day and I was able to crank out some work.

Side note: While we were all home, one of our friends who is starting a small business CAME TO OUR HOUSE to change the oil in both of our cars. You can’t beat that convenience and I somehow paid less than I do at Jiffy Lube, even though he assured us we were paying full price. If you live in South KC and are interested in this type of service, I will be happy to pass his info along.

After I closed up my computer I went on a 3 mile walk while chatting with my aunt about the nursery plans. I don’t think I have made any final decisions yet, but the three mile walk did go by surprisingly fast.

I came home just in time to start dinner prep.

IMG 0643

We had some friends over for dinner and kept it simple. Grilled chicken thighs with this marinade, roasted green beans, and baked french fries (+mac and cheese for the kids + Blue Bell for dessert). We played outside until the sun went down.

My head hit the pillow so hard and I almost had a heart attack when the alarm went off this morning. Take that, pregnancy insomnia!

Have a great Wednesday!

Catch-Up

Good morning!

IMG 0618

(I pulled my apple out of my lunch bag yesterday to find that someone had decided to take a little bite.)

Yesterday’s lack of post was due to a combo of nothing to write and no time to write it in. Still not much to report, but in the last 48 hours I have:

IMG 0617

-been eating leftovers. My mom made a delicious dinner for small group on Sunday and in true G-style there was twice as much as we needed. I was thankful for not having to cook when I got home last night.

- WORKED. Things are really starting to add up at my job, plus my part-time job. Also, Dan had to work an extra shift yesterday. Dave Ramsey would be so proud.

-strategized a new morning routine for Ina. I am happy to report that for the last 3 days Ina has agreed to get dressed with minimal fuss. I will write a full post on our new routine once I get it down.

-gone on a few stroller walks. Ina is starting to get antsy in the stroller, but only asks to get out when we stop and talk to people, which is often in our neighborhood. I am thinking I might want to invest in some type of double stroller where she can stand and ride along if she wants to?

Also, I wanted to share something that came in the mail yesterday - The Kendrick House B&B’s hotel supply catalogue.

IMG 0614

This was actually addressed to the Kendrick House B&B - so either one of you who knows my address is really funny, or the internet is a creepy place.

Regardless, Dan has looked at every page of the darn thing and picked out 100 new items that we NEED.

Have a good Tuesday!

My Food and Fitness Plan [4/12]

Good Sunday morning to you!

A few pictures to show how our weekend has gone:

IMG 0608

IMG 0613

Things are desperate when I am reading something educational during nap time.  I don’t think I will go into any more details until I am on the other side of this particular situation.

I will say, however, that last night was lovely and my sweet-as-pie daughter returned to us. Out of nowhere she gave me a hug, and said, “You are the best momma ever!” Dan came home from work and we ate picadillo (<— one of my favorite recipes for taste and preparation ease) in the living room followed by putting together Frozen puzzles, reading books, and watching the Royals game.

Here is my plan to make this week more manageable health wise, which will hopefully help me sanity wise. :)

Food

Fitness

This was a bust last week because I was sick, so I am hoping to get back in the game this week.

  • Sunday: 3 mile walk
  • Monday: 750 m swim
  • Tuesday: prenatal pilates
  • Wednesday: rest
  • Thursday: rest
  • Friday: 750 m swim
  • Saturday: rest

What are you up to this week? Thanks for Mommy, Run Fast! for hosting the link-up.

Our First Family Drive-Thru Experience

Well hello there! Happy Friday!

Last night Dan, Ina, and I, as a family of three(and a half), had our first drive-thru experience. At least that I can remember.

That isn’t to say that we don’t sometimes eat things less than healthy - last Saturday for Dan’s birthday I had two delicious pieces of pizza and Sunday for Easter I ate an undisclosed amount of dessert at my grandma’s. Both full of gluten, which comes to think of it, is probably why I got sick. (If given the opportunity to blame gluten, I usually do.)

We also go out to eat once a week-ish, but usually to Chipolte or somewhere I can’t replicate at home (Indian or Thai).

I just typically don’t see the point in eating anything that comes out of a drive-thru window. However, last night, as we were driving home from a weeknight errand and there was no time to make dinner, I wash’t feeling Chipolte because I was having some heart burn issues and who wants to eat a burrito bowl without spicy salsa?

When Dan asked where he should drive, I quietly told him I was craving french fries. A huge grin crossed his face and he asked where I wanted to go. I didn’t know - which place has the best french fries?

As we pulled into Wendy’s I fought the urge to slide down in my seat just in case someone I knew saw me.

Ina asked what we were doing at the bank.

We asked Ina if she wanted a cheeseburger or chicken nuggets and she couldn’t answer because she couldn’t stop squealing.

After we ordered we pulled around to the window and Ina asked who “that girl was?” We told her it was the girl who took our money and gave us our food.

She replied, “Awww, that’s so nice!"

When we received our bags of food, Ina screamed at her, “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!"

Ina ate all of her chicken nuggets and asked for more.

She spilled her milk in her carseat.

I finished her fries.

The “toy” in the kids meal was an Annie lyric book with two songs, Maybe and Tomorrow. So, the night ended with Dan and I talking about adoption and Ina’s first broadway performance.

Pretty appropriate.

Thankful Thursday

Hello!

IMG 0590

Take a picture of the bugs Momma!

We don’t like bugs!

We DON”T eat them...

Today, I am thankful for...

- Feeling 100% back to normal, minus the lack of color in my face. I think at least 3 people told me I looked pale yesterday. I suppose being sick will do that to a girl.

- My friend Kim gifting Ina a big sister book and Dan and I a sibling parenting book - we need to start reading now!

- My mom coming over and helping with Ina while I was sick and couldn’t do much with her.

- Dan mowing the yard yesterday (it was a beast!) and cooking dinner last night, so Ina and I had some playtime outside

IMG 0589

and then Dan joined her when it was time for me to work.

IMG 0598

- The weathermen were wrong yesterday. The sky looked like it was about to pour down on us, and then all of a sudden the wind blew the clouds away and the beautiful sun came out.

IMG 0605

-The Royals being undefeated! Let’s be honest, I went to bed during the 5th inning, but made sure to Google the score before I got out of bed this morning.

-Work working itself out. Last week it looked like all my projects were going to dump on me at the same time, and while I am plenty busy, so far it has been manageable. I might even be ahead of the game if I wasn’t sick on Monday!

What are you thankful for?

My Second Pregnancy: 6th month update

Good morning! How was the beginning of your week?

I hope it was better than mine. Monday morning, as I was anticipating going to opening day, I started to not feel so good. This turned into really not feeling good by about noon, and really, REALLY not feeling good by 3. So, i half-way watched the game from my couch, in between trips to the bathroom.

I thought at first it was just some pregnancy hormone symptoms, but when I started to have a fever and chills, I knew I had some sort of bug. Yesterday, as the day progressed, I felt a little more human with each hour.

I woke up this morning mostly back to my normal self, which I am so, so thankful for. You never appreciate how good you typically feel until you are sick and you long to just feel normal again.

Yay for normal!

Time for a pregnancy update:

Holy moly my belly has grown.

IMG 0579

compared to me pregnant with Ina at 25 weeks

Yesterday I was having a hard time breathing, which scared me and had me Googling super crazy things, like “pulmonary hypertension during pregnancy.” Then, when I changed from my clothes into my pajamas, I realized the running shorts I was wearing may have been a little too tight around the belly. Only slightly embarrassing...

Other updates:

  • This baby is a mover and a shaker. Yesterday i was using my belly as a table (don’t judge) and she literally kicked the plate! It moved a few inches and Dan and I both started laughing. Dan has been able to feel her move for a few weeks now. I try to get Ina to hold her hand to my belly, but she either only holds it there for a few seconds and then pretends she felt something, or holds her hand to my chest and yells at the baby to kick.
  • With the exception of this week, I had been doing pretty good at getting in some exercise. I think I am going to give myself one more rest day and then head back to the pool tomorrow.
  • From the day we found out this baby was a girl, Dan and I haven’t been able to agree on one single name. That is, until two days ago, we have found THREE that we both like. Now if we can just convince Ina to not call this baby Gari…
  • I am feeling great, with the exception of my lovely varicose veins. I already have more than I did with Ina, and they hurt a lot worse than they did this early with her, although 25 weeks was when I stopped running because of them. Saturday I was on my feet most of the day, and on the way home from Dan’s birthday party I had to fight back tears because they hurt so bad.
  • Sleep has still been pretty sporadic. I have a good night’s sleep once every 4 to 5 days. The rest are interrupted by Ina, getting up to empty my bladder, and not being able to support my belly just right. Even with the Snoogle, which I am so thankful for, sometimes I need an extra pillow shoved here or there.
  • I think I have settled on a nursery color scheme - coral and aqua. What I can’t decide is if I want to make it more geometric and add add gold, or more nature-like. Either way I have a lot of furniture to move before we get to the painting stage. The men in my small group have no idea what fun is in store for them this weekend.
  • During my next appointment I get to meet with the surgeon who did my C-section and discuss the risks of attempting a VBAC. I am oddly looking forward to this appointment, mostly because I have never had the chance to truly thank him for saving Ina’s life.
  • When I think about how long I have been pregnant, I feel like this pregnancy is almost over. BUT, then I think about how far I have to go - 13 weeks! Oh my.
I hope you have a blessed Wednesday!

Because He Lives (Easter 2015)

God sent His son, the called him Jesus

IMG 0494

He came to love, heal, and forgive

IMG 0508

He lived and died to buy my pardon

IMG 0521

An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives.

IMG 0525

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow

IMG 0530

Because He lives, all fear is gone

IMG 0533

Because I know He holds the future

IMG 0534

And life is worth the living just because He lives.

Dan's Birthday + My Food and Fitness Plan

First of all - Happy Easter!

IMG 0470

If no one has told you yet, Jesus loves you.

Yes you. If you want proof, look at the cross.

We went to my Grandma Beverly’s house to celebrate Easter yesterday morning. The kids had a blast.

IMG 0468

Then,we celebrated Dan’s 30th birthday. First, we went go-kart racing.

IMG 0491

I considered hopping in the saddle, but was gently reminded that I am carrying a child and that wouldn’t be a great idea.

IMG 0473

Oh yeah. I admit, it did look kind of jostling. So, I stayed and talked with friends and watched Ina play with the other kids at the bounce house.

IMG 0484

Then, we went out for pizza and watched Dan blow out what may have been more than 30 candles because the kids helped me put them on.

IMG 0489

We had a great turn out despite the holiday weekend, and Dan had the time of his life and felt truly loved all day. I am weird, and for silly reasons days like yesterday kind of stress me out, but seeing the smile on his face on the drive home made it all worth it.

Here is my plan for this week:

Food:

  • Sunday: Easter - likely eating leftovers
  • Monday: OPENING DAY!!! Dan is going to grill chicken for lunch and I bought some peanuts to bring in the game, so hopefully that will tide us over.
  • Tuesday: roasted chicken thighs, potatoes and cabbage
  • Wednesday: Dan will be grilling
  • Thursday: Mexican stuffed sweet potatoes
  • Friday: cheeseburger salad
  • Saturday: build your own pizza + salad

Fitness:

  • Sunday: rest
  • Monday: 750 meter swim
  • Tuesday: 3 mile walk
  • Wednesday: rest
  • Thursday: pre-natal pilates
  • Friday: 3 mile walk
  • Saturday: swim

What are you up to this week?

I hope you have a truly blessed Easter and take the time to be thankful for the greatest gift. <3
