My 2nd Trimester Fitness Plan

Well hello there, Monday!

We spent yesterday the way Sundays are meant to be spent.  Making pancakes (<--if you haven’t tried that recipe yet, you should.  They don’t even taste “healthy.”), going to church, watching football, taking naps, and then we had small group over for dinner.

(Can you see Cinderella in the pancake?)

After the long holiday break, I am so thankful our little group is back in business. I missed those people!

This week I also get to say goodbye to my first trimester.  I won’t miss it. Like most women will tell you, I just didn’t feel like myself the past few months.  I wasn’t overly sick or overly exhausted, I was just, well, blah.  Along with the blah came little motivation to exercise, so I listed to my body and rested more days than I moved.

However, now that I am starting to feel like me again, I am not ready to completely stop exercising for the next 6 months.  When I was pregnant with Ina, I had to stop running at 25 weeks because of painful varicosities.   During that time I bought a swimsuit, but never wore it and pretty much stopped exercising the rest of my pregnancy.

At that time, all I knew was running, and if I couldn’t do that, I really didn’t know what else to do.  However, since then I have tried SO many different things and am confident that I will have options to stay active this time around.

Let me be clear, I am not trying to go crazy and exhaust myself, but instead energize myself and be my “best self," even while pregnant.  Here are a few things I am going to do to stay active:

- Walk/jog on the treadmill while wearing active compression tights (these will help with the varicose pain)

- Yoga (although i will soon have to find a new video or modify the one I do now)

- YouTube pregnancy workout videos (I did Denise Austin’s yesterday and it was very mild.  Maybe a little too mild?)

- Weight lifting (maintaining my current strength)

My weekend swim reminded me that I feel so strong when I am in the pool.  I want to make it a point to go swimming at least twice a week the entire second trimester.  Will you hold me to that?

My general goal is going to be to do something active at least 4 times a week.

One way I like to stay motivated is read about other women’s active pregnancy.  Do you know of any currently pregnant active bloggers?  If so, please send them my way. Also any active pregnancy advice would be greatly appreciated. <3

Have a great week!

  1. Consider yourself lucky to have access to an indoor pool! Being in the water, while pregnant, is the best feeling to me. Getting out and feeling extra heavy is not my favorite feeling, but that's just more of an excuse to stay in the water. I so wish I had access to a pool! Enjoy it!

  2. Yes, goodbye 1st trimester! My 6-week-old daughter caused me the worst 1st trimester -- definitely worse than how I felt with my first child. I wasn't very active during either of my pregnancy, so I can't send "me" your way, plus I'm no longer pregnant :-9

I meant to be more active with my second pregnancy, but after I got sidelined during the 1st trimester, it was much too hot during most of the 2nd trimester, and by the 3rd trimester I was so huge that all I could do was walk a mile or two, and then even those plans went away! I hope you get out there and find exercise that works for you!!
