The Best 30th Birthday Present

Happy Friday!  I am writing this post in advance, so I am already sad that our vacation is almost over.

But, coming home from vacation always lights a little fire under me motivation-wise, so there is something to look forward to!

Last Friday, we celebrated my friend Meghan’s 30th birthday.  She didn’t want a big party, but we still wanted to do something special for her.

[The Pharm Squad back in action.  We went to a beautiful winery in Liberty, MO called Belvoir and then ate dinner at Seva, an amazing Indian restaurant.]

We ended up giving her “30 reasons why we love Meg."

I thought I would share this little project with you just in case you wanted to do something similar for a loved one.  It would obviously work for any birthday, but the older the recipient, the more challenging the task.

Through the help of some other friends and family members, I asked 30 people in her life to complete this sentence, “I love Meghan because…"

I then took the text they sent in, and used PicMonkey (<—free) to lay it over a picture of Meghan and that person.  I stalked FaceBook to get pictures of everyone.

[I should also note here that if you use PicMonkey, make sure that the photo is cropped to your size of choice - 4x6, 5x7, etc., before you add the text.]

For example:

or:

232323232 fp437 3 nu=5 94 9 3 238 WSNRCG=34 2843963329nu0mrj

The response was awesome!  Everyone was more than happy to help me with my gift.  It was fun to chat with so many of her friends and family, some of which I had never spoken to before.

I also absolutely loved reading all the sweet and loving things people had to say about my dear friend.  I cried multiple times.

Once all the pictures were in and I had added the text, I uploaded them to Wal-Mart’s website and had them in my hot little hands in one hour.  I also ordered 4x6 envelopes from Amazon a few days earlier.

After some envelope stuffing, number writing (and re-writing, because apparently 11 and 12 happen twice on the way to 30 and 15 is nowhere to be found), the gift was complete.

I was so nervous giving this to Meghan, but it was fun to watch her open it.  She would say things like, “I can’t believe that person sent you something,” or “awwww, that was so sweet.”

There was plenty of laughter and plenty of tears.  We then gave her a picture album that would hold 4x6 pictures, so she had a place to keep them.

A successful gift.  I now want to do it for everyone I know’s birthday.  Do you think it will still be a surprise?

A few other options - you could make a photo book out of the reasons.  I considered this, but I wanted her to open each one individually.  You could also not use pictures and just write the reasons down on paper.

Have you ever done anything like this?  Any advice on improvement?
