Packing in the Morning Protein

Disclaimer: I was given Designer Whey and Smari products in order to write this post through FitFluential.  However, all opinions are my own.  Conveniently, Designer Whey has been my protein powder of choice for years, so  I jumped at the chance to write a review.

I used to eat cereal for breakfast every morning.  It was delicious.  Convenient.  I loved the variety.

What I did not love was the fact that I would be a trembling, low blood sugar mess my 10:30.

The problem was that cereal didn't have enough protein to get me through until lunch.  Once I started adding protein to my breakfast I found myself not looking at the clock with hungry eyes until noon.

Now I save cereal for dessert only and aim to get 15 to 20 g of protein in my breakfast.  Here are some ideas on how to do that:

Eggs

Protein Powder: The flavors are endless.  For years I have been a chocolate and vanilla girl, but after Designer Whey sent me the vanilla almond and luscious strawberry flavors I am never turning back.  They are delicious!  I use my protein powder for:
Cottage Cheese with fruit - my faves are pineapple, grapes, pears, and strawberries

Yogurt - You all know I love some Greek yogurt.  However, we might be breaking up, because this Icelandic yogurt is amazing.

Creamy, just sweet enough, and it packs 17 g of protein!  (FYI - Whole Foods is the only location in the KC area I could find it).  To find out more about Smari, click here.

You could eat it plain, add some fruit, or use it to make some delicious over-night oats.

Protein bars - I try to stay away from these unless I don't have time for anything else, and they are a life saver.

DW also sent me their new Protein 2Go recovery drink mix, which you mix in water.  I have yet to try it, but plan to today.  I will let you know what I think.

Any other suggestions?  How do you get protein in your breakfast?

  2. I usually make a smoothie with strawberries, pineapple, banana, chia seeds and coconut water and then I eat a cheese stick mid morning.
