You know you have been in the hospital too long when you know the names of every doctor, nurse, tech, and custodian that work on TWO floors. When you pass them they ask, "You're still here?" or "How is she doing today?" (The nurses at our hospital are amazing. I have made so many new friends in the past few days.)
You know you have been in the hospital too long when your husband cooks a meal at home and brings it to you for dinner.
Beef pot roast amazingness. I gobbled that right up.
You know you have been in the hospital too long when the prospect of unlimited free ice cream isn't even exciting anymore
and the thought of one more peanut butter and jelly sandwhich makes you nauseous.
You know you have been in the hospital too long when you start using your daughter's UV lamp for special effects in photos.
You know you have been in the hospital too long when you can't remember what your holiday decorations look like, but feel at home with a fake tree with fake presents underneath it.
(Ina's first picture with Santa)
You know you have been in the hospital too long when, after hearing that you have to stay yet another day, you lose it in front of your baby's doctor. Lose it so much that she writes you a prescription for a margarita and tells you that you don't have a choice but to vacate the property for lunch.
(My first beer in 9 months. Delicious.)
You know you have been in the hospital too long when the flip flops you wore in there 7 days ago are no longer weather condition appropriate. Brrr....
So, Ina Mae's bilirubin didn't decrease fast enough. We are here at least one more night. Sucko. I just keep reminding myself that things could have been so much worse. I hope you all have better Saturday night plans!
Thinking of, and praying for you all
ReplyDeleteSo sorry you are still there! But I did get really excited for you when I saw you got to have a beer!!!! Where are my priorities??? And you do know that I am saying lots of prayers and I am so happy for you guys, I could just burst!

Glad things are going well for you guys Racheal. Sucks you are still there, but you want Ina to be good and healthy when she heads home. Oh my hospital food is yuck. I remember when I had my daughter, my hubby brought me homemade chicken salad, croissants and a pint of Ben and Jerry's Chunky Monkey from the supermarket. I was so happy. You will be home soon.
ReplyDeleteI love that you had your first beer and that you were forced to go out and get it. ;-) Hang in there, girl. (My nephew was in NICU for almost a month, but he ripped a whole in his lung and it had to heal before he could leave.) You know the end is in sight and another day or two will make coming home so worth it. Just remember it's better than having to come back. ;-) Hang in there. I'm thinking of you!!!
