I love Greek food. For years, if I passed by a restaurant that displayed a ‘gyros” sign outside I would stop and get one. No matter what. Like even if I had just eaten an entire Mexican meal that came with margaritas.
A certain trip to Chicago comes to mind.
Dan and I have full intentions of going to Greece – maybe for our 10 year anniversary. We still can’t decide if we should take a cruise to tour the islands or pick one or a few to stay at and explore
We might not come back.
Now that gyros aren’t as much of a novelty and I have learned to make them, I can resist those last minute temptations. But, when Dan suggests that we make some for dinner I am always game.
Last night I chopped up a gyro topping platter feast when my new running buddy Courtney and her family came over for dinner.
Dan grilled lamb / lean beef mix and I made the tzatziki sauce following this recipe. Sorry the pictures of the gyro is lacking – I was too busy thinking about eating it.
Courtney brought fat free angel food cake with sprinkles and chocolate wine (which tastes like a Dark Russian).
It. was. delish.
For breakfast I threw a sliced mango in the food processor until it looked like baby food. Then I added it to my normal mixture of overnight oats: 1/3 C of oats, almond milk, and ff Greek yogurt and 1 T of chia seeds.
To get in a little extra protein, I added half a scoop of vanilla protein powder to my iced coffee.
Lunch was left over buffalo chicken pizza topped with some greens.
No run on Tuesday.
